<image:title>Our Vision - We Ride Together</image:title>
<image:caption>Ride for Racial Justice rides towards an equitable future for the sport of cycling through the power and freedom of the bicycle. Our mission is to ensure access to resources, education, and community for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) cyclists and to dismantle systemic racism. BIPOC leadership is our foundation. Through advocacy and lobbying, we work to enhance BIPOC leadership, voices, experiences, community and infrastructure in cycling, from global brand to local events. We condemn racism and know the suffering of any one human has a lasting effect on us all as a global community. Our vision for equity in the sport incorporates the intersectionality of race, gender identity, sexual orientation and socio-economic status and includes those in all marginalized groups, including the LGBTQIA+ community, Immigrants, and Women. The way forward is together, in solidarity. We’re committed to representation, access and breaking down barriers to bikes and cycling for BIPOC youth and adults. Since our founding in July 2020, we have begun working to create programs to provide education and access to bikes, gear, racing, and community, especially for those in under-resourced communities. In November 2020 we announced our partnership with SBT GRVL to bring 25 BIPOC cyclists to the start line! Our Core Values are Diversity, Education, Leadership & Community! — From our Co-Founders and Board of Directors, Marcus Robinson, Neal Henderson, Alisha Zellner, Massimo Alpian & Renee Marino</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ajoa Abrokwa is the founder of She Is Focused and is a "multisport mom" from Philadelphia, Pa. Over the past two years, she has developed a love for cycling. After participating in several competitive cycling events such as a triathlon relay with the D.I.S.K. Triathlon Organization, ToAD Crit Race Series, and a few other individual and team multisport events, Ajoa immediately felt a connection to cycling and is in constant pursuit of both self-improvement and community impact. Ajoa was featured in the “Gear of the Year” issue of Bicycling Magazine and had a documentary created about her life using cycling as a way to combat the mental challenges of the pandemic titled “From Quarantine to Q.R.T.” produced by Love Now Media. Holding true to her passion and the commitment she made after being featured by USA Cycling’s Women in Cycling Campaign, #LeadHerForward, Ajoa is not only a youth cycling coach for Bicycling Coalition Youth Cycling, she is also committed to using the bike and other physical activities as tools to enhance overall quality of wellbeing. Ajoa is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and enjoys spending time with her three children, traveling, and making an impact wherever she goes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Alexandria Farrell is a Trinidadian American and Bushwick native from Brooklyn, NY. During the summer of 2020, she found a sense of purpose through cycling for social justice and became a leader of a new and diverse cycling group that evolved into a large community of bike enthusiasts who also care deeply about social justice. Cycling for social justice is especially near to her heart because it's how she found her partner. Together they’ve enjoyed bikepacking, cyclocross, and leading groups of peers on a bike ride from NYC to DC with Ride to DC, an annual ride that is one of the longest bike protests in the country. She likes to volunteer at the local bike co-op, the Mechanical Gardens, where their mission is to democratize bike knowledge and empower people to become more self-sufficient bike owners. In 2021, she began racing with Be Cyclocross, whose mission is to demonstrate that Black & Brown athletes have a place in cyclocross. Cycling has become an integral part of her life and self-care. She’s excited to be a part of Ride for Racial Justice because it aligns with her personal goal to increase the representation of people of color in the world of cycling and encourage others to find freedom through infinite adventures.</image:caption>

The outdoors and athletic endeavors have always been a central part of her life. Growing up with a love for the outdoors she often wished for more BIPOC representation. Bicycles have been a way to meet people, a necessary form of transportation, and the ultimate form of escape and relaxation. After finally finishing school, she is now finding her way back to all cycling has to offer. Allison is excited to encourage more people to discover what cycling and getting outdoors can do while taking on the challenge of SBT Gravel!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Alyssa Gonzalez (She/Her) grew up in New England, spending most of her youth and teen years in Connecticut. She moved to Colorado in 2016 to pursue her master’s degree in User Experience Design and was introduced to outdoor sports soon after. As a Hispanic and SE Asian woman of color getting into the “outdoors” as an adult, she struggled to find her place or to feel like she belonged. It wasn’t until the spring of 2020, that she found her passion for advocacy and started to discover communities of other people of color in the outdoors. The BLM movement coming to the forefront of our country was extremely impactful for her. It was the first time in her life where she saw Black and Brown voices speaking up about race and social injustices on such a large platform. Alyssa works as a Product Designer for Outside inc. and is an advocate for women of color in cycling and snow sports. She’s sponsored and supported by Pivot Cycles, Hunt Wheels, Wild Rye, Rossignol, and Hammerhead. Cycling has changed her life in so many ways and she is excited to be a part of the Ride for Racial Justice team to bring more representation, diversity, and equity to the start line.</image:caption>

Ann leads the Equity and Inclusion effort in her regional office and sits on the Bicycle Colorado RIDE (short for Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) Advisory Board. She is a licensed landscape architect and urban designer who leads public interest-based projects and creates accessible and sustainable open spaces and streetscapes. <image:caption>Howdy! My name is Ariel Marlowe (He/They), and while I was raised in NC (raise up), I currently live in Austin, TX. Living in Austin and seeing the effects of underrepresentation, I chose to create, share and hold space for myself and others like me by contributing to the work Austin's Yellow Bike Project and Black History Bike Ride do for my new home. Through those relationships, I was able to meet and collaborate with some amazing folx (like RFRJ teammate Brandon Grant), which led to the creation of BottomBracketBoys (@BBBatxtothemoon); a cycling family that welcomes and uplifts members of the African Diaspora in the greater ATX area. Cycling has become such a meaningful way to express myself, develop agency and autonomy, and provide community care. I love my city, the people in it, and the life I’m blessed to live. Looking forward to the opportunity to meet and be mentored by amazing riders and to experience SBT GRVL with Ride for Racial Justice!</image:caption>

Cycling has had a great impact on his life as a tool to battle depression, as well as giving him an opportunity to compete, challenge himself, grow, and make some incredible friends. Aydin’s greatest belief is in kindness, and he maintains that through making cycling more inclusive for all. Outside of cycling, he’s passionate about social and environmental justice having previously served in the British Columbia and Western Canada Youth Parliaments, as well as volunteered for political parties. BG does bike delivery work by trade and spends a significant amount of his recreational time biking outside of work. What he’s found with his experience has been an unmatched sense of freedom outdoors, a bike family to support and be supported by, and an agency to enact change within Austin. He can't always count on a car to be ready to go all 4 seasons, but his bike has always been there. Even more precious than the tool itself are the connections you make along the way. Something about riding bikes makes you open up to the world and the people in it and that's something he never wants to forget. <image:caption>Jeffrey Starke grew up in the Florida Panhandle where there was rarely a day when he didn’t ride a bike. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, he rekindled his love for riding bikes in college. When he moved to NYC, biking to work continued to be his favorite part of the day and a wonderful alternative to crowded subway trains with unexpected delays. In 2020, his relationship with bicycles grew deeper as he joined thousands of bike protesters riding for racial justice. This was his entry point into social activism and led him to join Ride to DC, where hundreds pedaled from NYC to Washington D.C. to attend the March on Washington and recognize the significance of Black lives. In the past year, he and his partner discovered many new ways of having fun on bikes through bikepacking and cyclocross. He hopes that his participation in the 144-mile SBT GRVL race this year will help pave the way for other people like him to discover the joy, practicality, and versatility of cycling!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Born in Korea with only a right hand, Josie Fouts is an Asian-American amputee that grew up in the midwest, always standing out. Her interest in metabolism research led her out to San Diego, and the year-round great weather encouraged her to begin commuting by bike. Soon the San Diego cycling community discovered her potential and encouraged her to pursue bigger goals, the Paralympics! However, when the Tokyo Games got postponed, she found herself riding on trails and connecting deeper with herself, following a path less graveled, especially for para-athletes. Her first-hand experience taught her that she is more than the body parts that she doesn’t have; what she does have and what others can see are her true identity. Now she uses the bicycle as a tool to rediscover herself, trail blaze for para-athletes to ride off-road, find ultimate life balance, and ride for racial justice.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Junior Montoya is an outdoor enthusiast based out of Arlington, VA. He began cycling due to injuries from long-distance running and quickly fell in love with the distances he could cover on the bike. He got his first gravel bike to tackle the C&O canal and shortly after received a scholarship from Melanin Base Miles to race his first gravel race. This year he joined the Melanin Base Miles Gravel team, a team made up of BIPOC athletes in the DMV area. This team has introduced him to a new community that likes to get spicy out on the gravel roads and has a shared goal to bring representation to some of our local gravel races. When he's not on the bike, Junior is a volunteer with Soul Trak Outdoors, a non-profit that aims to create a supportive and welcoming space to grow and experience the outdoors for the BIPOC community.</image:caption>

They've always found a lot of joy on bikes, but it wasn't until their partner introduced them to the thrill of cyclocross that bikes became an obsessive part of their life. Road, cyclocross, gravel, bikepacking, bopping around town - they're into all of it! They love pushing the limits of what they can do. They are grateful to the cycling community and the connections they've made through bikes - a particular shout-out to the BikePOC PNW group. They are continually interested in how to weave together their love of biking with organizing for change. Last year they helped co-organize adoptees of color bike ride, and they hope to support more spaces like that this coming year that can use biking to bring people together, build relationships, and lead to political action. They currently work at Oregon Food Bank where they manage the food systems team focused on building resilient, food-secure communities grounded in equity and justice. As a fitness professional and movement educator going back 25 years, she currently guides her clients into optimal movement and performance using Pilates, traditional strength and conditioning, functional training, TRX, and The Biomechanics Method of Corrective Exercise. She is also developing her bike fit skills to better serve her cycling community. Ling’s personal life is all about the outdoors. Moving to Colorado in 2012 completely rewired her. The Front Range got her out of the health club setting and into endurance sports. Running, cycling, and hiking became the keys to supporting her mental health. As an avid road cyclist dabbling into gravel, she is grateful for the wide-shouldered roads surrounding her East Boulder County home and the easy access to gravel paths and roads. The bike has connected her to many communities including Black Girls Do Bike Denver and Zwift Team Type 1 which is made up of riders all over the world with Type 1 Diabetes like herself. <image:caption>Martin Jones is a father of six wonderful kids and two equally amazing step kids. He loves spending time with an incredible girlfriend and their family. Martin is an avid cyclist, golfer, and snowboarder who makes the most of his time just living life. He was a scholar-athlete in high school who received academic and football scholarships to attend the University of Northern Colorado, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business. Out of college, he had the opportunity to play professional football but, due to injuries, that experience was cut short after two years. It wasn’t until 2018 that Martin found cycling, using it as a tool to just escape all that life was throwing at him and to get back to being healthy and productive. A good friend of his convinced him to get a bike and ride. It didn’t take long before he was spending all his free time on the bike and looking for more ways to make cycling a way of life. Martin has mainly been a road cyclist but got a gravel bike in 2020 and started to venture off the beaten path. He is in the process of getting a cycling club going that’s focused on diversity and inclusivity in the cycling community. Box State Cycling Club (IG: BxStCC) is slowly coming together, so be on the lookout as he builds the foundation. Martin is grateful for the opportunity to ride with the R4RJ team at SBT GRVL. Representation matters!</image:caption>

      <image:title>SBT GRVL Program Athletes 2022 - Oliviah Franke</image:title>
<image:caption>Oliviah Franke grew up in Portland Oregon but calls Anchorage, Alaska home. She works at the Alaska Humanities Forum, coordinating programs that focus on connecting Alaskans through conversations on topics such as racial equity, culture and heritage, queer identity, and climate. After grad school, she took a cycling break as she focused on her career and now three years later, she is back on two wheels and hoping to combine her love for cycling and outdoor spaces with her passion for social change and equity for all. She wants to work on expanding the ideas that folks have around who "belongs" outside, on bikes, on backcountry trails, etc. She knows representation is important and must work through her own roadblocks and self-doubt as a biracial, queer, plus-sized woman getting into cycling. Oliviah challenged herself to build her own custom bike from scratch, a bike that allows her to push the boundaries of what she can achieve when she puts her mind to it. Looking forward, she will continue to challenge herself to prepare for her first-ever race with RFRJ. She is honored to be a part of a program that strives to expand access for BIPOC cyclists!</image:caption>

      <image:title>SBT GRVL Program Athletes 2022 - Ric McGill</image:title>
<image:caption>Growing up in San Diego near the beach, Ric McGill surfed, played beach volleyball, cycled, and even got Open Water SCUBA Certified. He and his younger brother were pretty much the only brown faces out there and were very lucky that their dad exposed them to so many different sports. They never heard, “We don’t do that”. The surf and the mountains called to them, and they answered with their presence. He’s much older now, and unfortunately, is still often the only brown face out there. He loves his time on road and gravel bikes. The people you meet and the smiles you share on the gravel seem purer for some reason. Representation matters. Ric rides for RFRJ and all the BIPOC Dads who tell their kids, “That looks fun, let’s go do that!”</image:caption>

      <image:title>SBT GRVL Program Athletes 2022 - Rubén Mercado</image:title>
<image:caption>Rubén Mercado is an art director and musician based in Louisville, CO where he lives with his wife and daughter. Of Puerto Rican heritage, he was raised in Spanish Harlem in the ’70s, where salsa music, wall murals, and graffiti became the inspiration for a successful career in the arts. A latecomer to cycling, he caught the cycling bug after moving to Colorado in 2015. He quickly fell in love with the freedom that the gravel roads of the front range offered up. The past seven years have been a fantastic journey of exploration both on and off the bike. He’s looking forward to the next phase of the journey. Through his work with RFRJ, Rubén hopes to gain the experience and contacts to help continue advocating for diversity within the cycling community. In particular, to work with youth to nurture the love of cycling and offer opportunities seldom available within the BIPOC community.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Selena Feliciano is a community member, cyclist, and artist on occupied Chochenyo Ohlone land (Oakland, CA). She spends most of her days advocating for environmental justice, working closely with neighbors near and far to build pathways for resilience in the face of climate change. A proud Salvadoreña & Boricua, Selena owes her curiosity for cycling to her father, who began biking as a form of transportation and entertainment while growing up in the Bronx. She believes cycling to be a direct practice of ancestral connection and ongoing identity exploration. Currently, Selena is an avid bicycle tourist and contributing performer in zany art-powered bicycle adventures with Agile Rascal Bicycle Touring Theatre Company. Selena is passionate about increasing BIPOC representation at the intersection of art and cycling and is planning a bicycle tour of Borikén (Puerto Rico) with other creatives of Caribbean descent. When she's not on two wheels, Selena is surfing frigid waters, stewarding bees, or singing to redwoods.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Trevon Mitchell attends Cleveland high school in Washington. He started cycling in 2020 with Northstar when the pandemic hit because it was and still is a good source of exercising since all the gyms were closed during that time. He picked up cycling pretty quickly and started to get stronger by doing more and longer rides. In 2021, Trevon did his first crit race and continued racing until he got his first win! The reason he loves cycling is not only because you can go fast, but it can bring people together. He hopes to continue connecting with other people and introducing them to another form of exercise that they may have never known before.</image:caption>

He started cycling as a child and never really picked it up again until he found out that he had type-2 diabetes and needed to change his life. Cycling has helped him reverse his type-2 diabetes and make new friends. In the daytime, you can catch Truong riding bikes to different coffee spots while sharing his favorite apple. The Rockit Apple. On the weekends, you can find him photographing a wedding or going out to do long rides. Truong’s goal this year is to finish the blue ride for the steamboat. It would be his first Century on dirt!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoofi (Yo-fee) Otabil is a name often given to males who belong to the Fante tribe (a part of the larger Akan tribe of Ghana) born on a Friday. He grew up with his 3 sisters in Accra, the capital city of Ghana until he moved to the US for college in 2009. He relocated from the Metro Detroit area right before the pandemic to Bentonville, Arkansas where he now lives with his family. He rediscovered cycling early in 2020, right before the world shut down, and has since fallen in love with the sport and its vibrant community in this area. The bicycle has been an important part of his mental and physical health and has given him a newfound appreciation for the people and places around him. Almost every weekend includes some sort of adventure with friends through the beautiful back roads of Northwest Arkansas. If you are ever in the area, hit him up! He'd love to chat and catch a ride!</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program 2023 - Abe Alkhamees</image:title>
<image:caption>Abe Alkhamees (he/him) is a cyclist, adventurer, and outdoor junkie. Cycling helped him lose over 188 lbs, half of his weight, and turn his life around for the better. He’s captivated by how cycling brings people together and he loves all the people he’s met and the communities he’s become part of along the way. Passing this passion on to others is one of the ways he gives back to the cycling community. Finally, of course, Abe wouldn't be here without his friends, family, and strangers; thanks to them, his stories and adventures are more colorful and meaningful than going it alone. When he’s not riding, you can find Abe writing his next story to share on The Paperclip.cc. He writes stories about unique cycling trips, destinations, and, most recently, about a growing cycling scene in the world's hottest country, Kuwait. Abe hopes to cross paths with you soon, ride up mountains, descend into valleys, and share a meal somewhere around the globe. Photo by Pat Daly</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program 2023 - Ana Herrera</image:title>
<image:caption>Ana Herrera (she/her) was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She is 30 years old and teaches English as a second language to refugee children. Being a first-generation Mexican American meant that she always had to work twice as hard and that’s her mentality going into this next adventure. Ana’s love for cycling began during a time in her life where her mental health needed the freedom and escape that riding on trails provided. It was life changing. Riding added another outdoor hobby to the list. She also loves to hike, do yoga, and garden. During Covid, Ana got certified as an Urban Gardener to really push the boundaries when it comes to women of color enjoying the outdoors. She’s honored to be representing and riding with RFRJ because it includes women of color and values those of us who go the extra mile!</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program 2023 - Annijke Wade</image:title>
<image:caption>Annijke Wade (she/her) is a new adaptive mountain biker, para off-road cyclist, and athlete. Annijke grew up in the town of Sonoma, California. In 2019, Annijke found her passion for mountain biking and gravel cycling. By 2020, she raced in her first enduro mountain bike race and by 2021, Annijke was slated to race 7+ mountain and gravel races in California, New Mexico, and Colorado – including SBT GRVL with RFRJ. However, in July of 2021, Annijke sustained a spinal cord injury in a horrible downhill mountain biking accident. In 2022, she was back to the sport and is learning how to live as a full-time wheelchair user. Outside of her love for riding bikes and being outdoors, Annijke is also passionate about making the outdoors and mountain biking a safe space for all. 2023 for Annijke is about advocating for BIPOC and para-athletes, developing her on the bike skills, and having a good time outdoors and on the trails.</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program 2023 - Armando Luna</image:title>
<image:caption>Armando Luna (he/him) lives and rides in Portland, Oregon. As one of those "weird" kids who rode a bike to high school, he’s enjoyed riding bikes all his life. After visiting Portland in 1996, he fell for the bike culture and has been living here since. As much fun as bikes are, there's also a responsibility to riding them. Armando uses a lot of his free time volunteering for several biking organizations. Two years ago, he became part of a newly formed group, BikePOC PNW. BikePOC PNW is a group that is "actively creating intentional space for bike riders of color in our region". Since joining this group, his perspective on cycling has widened. Being a Mexican American in one of the whitest cities, he has always tried to represent as a person of color in the cycling community in the hopes of getting other folks involved. BikePOC PNW takes this to another level by offering a safe space for many. Armando enjoyed riding with and helping to organize many of the events BikePOC PNW has made happen. Although he’s participated in organized rides such as the Swift Summit 100/200 and CycleOregon’s GRAVEL rides, his favorite time of the year is summer in Portland when Pedalpalooza happens! Pedalpalooza has hundreds of social rides with whatever theme the ride leader wants. Last summer, he was fortunate enough to co-lead the kickoff ride, with thousands of bikes parading through Portland! Photo by Harry Apelbaum</image:caption>

<image:caption>Brando Rockers (he/they) is 25 years old and was originally born in South Texas. He is of Black and Mexican heritage. Brando currently lives in Fort Collins, CO where he trains as a member of Blitz Crew Racing as well as Bike Ride for Black Lives. He enjoys criteriums and MTB races. He is new to cycling, but enthusiastically welcoming any opportunity to get in over my head. Cycling has fulfilled that for him (and then some!) by affording him an unparalleled sense of community and belonging as well as just being plain ol’ fun. While not perfect in its inclusiveness, he’s never one to shy away when met with challenges in an endeavor that he’s passionate about—biking notwithstanding. Building equity and diversity in this sport is an integral part of this challenge that Brando’s ready to meet head on. Care to join him on this journey?</image:caption>

<image:caption>Brianna Hurt (she/her) has spent the majority of her life in the Northern VA/DC area. She attended undergrad at Howard University and graduate school at American University, in Washington, DC where she studied accounting. After several years of working, Brianna decided to change careers and went back to school, at Elon University in NC, to get her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She is now a licensed PT in the outpatient orthopedic setting. Brianna has always been active and adventurous but was first introduced to cycling when she started doing triathlons in 2016. She has completed races of varying distances from sprints to half ironman. Gravel cycling is new for her. Brianna got her first gravel bike when she decided to combine her love for camping and cycling and did a bike packing trip from PA to DC. Since then, she has competed in cyclocross and gravel races and has joined a BIPOC gravel cycling team, Melanin Base Miles. Outside of cycling, Brianna still enjoys triathlons but also camping, hiking, snowboarding and several other outside activities. Most recently, she has combined her PT knowledge and love for bikes and started doing bike fittings in early 2022. Photo by Danny Awang</image:caption>

<image:caption>Cauvin Mo (he/him) is a Cantonese American, born in Houston and spent most of his life living car-centric in Cincinnati, Ohio. His interest in bicycling peaked six years ago in Ohio, when he participated in 'National Bike to Workday' and experienced commuting to work by bicycle for the first time. After that, Cauvin started to regularly commute by bicycle and looking into living a car free lifestyle. His growing desire to have a less car-oriented lifestyle prompted him to move to a city with better bike and transit infrastructure so he relocated to Seattle, Washington and he has been car free for almost three years. Since moving to Seattle, Cauvin has been able to meet new friends and explore the city and surrounding areas through cycling. Making connections with people and being able to share knowledge, experiences, and group ride together inspired him to start the Seattle Cycling Discord, which allows new and seasoned cyclists to connect. It's a place where we make sure all people feel welcomed and can ask questions, share knowledge, gear, events, and build a closer-knit community without having the elitist cyclist stereotype. This year will be his second year in a row attending SBT GRVL (Black Course) and he’s hoping to beat last years’ time. Photo by Tony Hernandez</image:caption>

<image:caption>Em Bhoo (they/she) is a bike commuter-turned-racer living in Alexandria, VA. Em traded road slicks for gravel racing during the pandemic and has learned to enjoy longer days in the saddle and eating tons of carbs. Em is an inaugural member of Melanin Base Miles, a BIPOC gravel racing team based out of Washington DC. Representation is important to Em—feeling like “the only one” can feel heckin lonely! Therefore Em continues to lead rides and coach clinics. Em loves exploring new roads, climbs, and coffeeshops, but also isn’t afraid to lock onto the trainer for some intervals on the weekdays. SBT GRVL will be the first time Em leaves the East Coast to race bikes and they are so stoked to be doing so with Ride for Racial Justice! Photo by Mike Stoll</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program 2023 - Enzo Moscarella</image:title>
<image:caption>Enzo Moscarella (he/him) is an artist and maker currently living in Queens, New York. The Colombian immigrant first began his cycling journey in 2020 after he purchased a steel frame single speed off Craigslist. The first series of rides at distance were through the participation of the rides organized by Street Riders NYC during the Black Lives Matter protest and call for action around police injustices. Since then, Enzo has found riding as a form of therapy, exercise, and creative stimulus. In 2021 Enzo was selected as part of the inaugural team From The Ground Up, to participate in training and riding the Leadville Trail 100 with no mountain bike experience. The program and companion video documentation has led Enzo to dive fully into cycling, further pursuing the sport and his role in it. Over the last year, Enzo was fortunate enough to participate again in the second iteration of FTGU, finishing the 100-mile race at Unbound but due to a training injury the sophomore attempt, the Leadville race was not in the cards. Instead Enzo focused the time off the bike to write and illustrate an inclusive children's book, I WANT TO RIDE MY BICYCLE, around different kinds of bicycles and the many diverse people that can use them. Although the journey into cycling and advocacy for Enzo is in the early stages, this newfound passion in the sport has exciting prospects. Looking forward to further combining his background in the arts and making with this appreciation into cycling and community, Enzo is excited to join fellow FTGU alumni at SBT with their teams including All Bodies on Bikes and SBT ambassador program. It is an honor for him to be selected and represent Ride for Racial Justice in 2023. Photo by Robert Barranco</image:caption>

<image:caption>Imran McGrath (he/him) is an alleged "bikey boi" born in Indonesia and currently living in the occupied Duwamish territory known as Seattle, WA. Though he grew up here, it was through the triathlon club at UC San Diego that he was introduced to cycling. When Imran moved back to Seattle and looked to start riding more, he connected with Ampersand Bikes Club (&BC). The group was founded after the Atlanta spa shootings in 2021 as a way for ANH/PI folks to be in solidarity through bikes, food, and more. As a mixed-race person who connects to their culture through food, he loves their "ramen rides” where they bike to a park to cook and share food. &BC has also empowered him towards many firsts, from his first cyclocross race to riding the Seattle-to-Portland Classic with over 30 other cyclists from local BIPOC bike orgs. If he’s not biking around town with friends, catch Imran reading, cooking Indo food, or sweating over a repair stand trying to learn bike mechanics. Imran knows we need resilient communities to tackle issues of racial, environmental, and transportation justice. This year, he’s looking forward to helping organize bikepacking trips, group rides, and events to build strong community. Groups working to lower the barrier of entry in cycling and triathlon got him into those sports - let's build more ladders as we climb. Honestly, his biking journey has just begun, and Imran’s honored to be a part of the change with RFRJ! Photo by Kae-Lin Wang</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jennelyn Tumalad Bailon (She/Her/Siya) is a Filipinx American immigrant currently growing roots with her husband in unceded Chumash land, Oxnard, CA. Jennelyn comes from a background as an arts and culture program manager and received degrees from the University of Washington and Pratt Institute. It was through experiencing the harsh truths in higher education and working at renowned cultural institutions such as the J. Paul Getty Museum and Whitney Museum of American art where she found her calling as an activist. Personally, and professionally, her mission is to challenge the dominant culture and to advocate for communities that have been historically exploited, misrepresented, and erased. In 2020, Jennelyn learned to ride a bike. Before then she felt shame, embarrassment, and excluded from typical childhood milestones. To her, learning to ride a bike is more than gaining a new skill, but is a way to challenge what she's been told, and to rewrite how she sees herself: Women can take part in competitive physical activities, it’s ok to be out in the sun and get dark. It's ok if your childhood looked different than others. In only two years Jennelyn went from learning to balance on a bike to completing her first bikepacking trip on the PCH. While training with the Ride for Racial Justice team, she's excited to grow her community, experience her first race, and learn technical bike skills.</image:caption>

For transportation and independence, Jim adopted biking, but was held back by his bike that eventually broke. Through observing, tinkering, and breaking, he learned how to fix it. He then dedicated much of his life to helping others achieve independence and self-sufficiency on bikes. He works at Bike Works Seattle, a bicycling non-profit. Jim also helps to support two BIPOC biking groups — NorthStar Cycling and Ampersand Bikes Club. To Jim, bicycling represents physical and mental health, and connection to the earth and other people. <image:caption>Khristopher Nicholas (he/him ) is a Trinidad-born, Florida-raised lover of all things two-wheeled. Born with severe bilateral clubfoot and having had many corrective surgeries, he feels the most freedom doing adventurous (read: occasionally reckless) things on bicycles and motorcycles. After completing a bachelor’s degree at Columbia University, he foolishly said to himself, “self, what’s a bit more school” and obtained a PhD in global nutrition from UNC Chapel Hill. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University where he researches how on earth to keep warm in the winter. Khristopher is grateful to have had many amazing cycling experiences: mountain biking up (and then down) a volcano in the Galápagos Islands, exploring the rolling hills of Emilia-Romagna, Italy, bikepacking the length of Florida in 1-week, dozens of adrenaline-pumping criteriums, hundreds of miles of gravel races across the Southern United States, and even delivering food for UberEats. When not on a bicycle, Khristopher is likely cooking curry chicken, reading science fiction, eating sardines, or indulging his spoiled kitty, Leona.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Lisa Gillespie (she/her) is a RN and professor of nursing and a New Yorker from Harlem. She learned her bike skills riding/racing NYC streets with NYC messengers in the 80s and 90s. As a former mountain biker, she discovered road riding about seven years ago and never looked back. She is a Shero of Black Girls Do Bike NYC (BGDBNYC), a group that champions and advocates for BIPOC and black women (who are the most underserved group) in cycling. Currently, she’s working on various rides and training for the group as well as helping expand the group’s gravel riders. BGDBNYC even has a team of 4 women from NYC going to SBT gravel! She says living and riding in NYC is a game of hypervigilance and she wants more NYCers to experience the joys of car free gravel. She participated in NJ Gravel Grinder and Unbound in Kansas last year. She’s a triathlete and loves challenges. In 2022, she placed first in her age group for Escape the Cape triathlon where you jump off a boat and race to shore. This year, in addition to SBT, she’ll be racing in the NYC triathlon and will be questioning why she agreed to race in the Hudson River. Have you seen the Hudson? LOL!</image:caption>

He’s found his passion for cycling has given him so much joy and peacefulness, and he strives to share that with the world. Makesi hopes to show that anyone at any time can participate and become a great cyclist no matter their circumstances. He found cycling in early 2020. It gave him the ability to get outside and compete with anyone on a bike but mainly with myself. In December 2021, he broke his arm and wrist. Once his cast was off, the only exercise Makesi was cleared for was Zwift. Cycling became his stress relief on a whole new level! Now it pushes him to be better than he was on the last ride every single time. Makesi may have only been a road cyclist thus far, but he admires the courage and fearlessness of gravel riders. He looks forward to this new challenge!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Maxx (they/them) is a passionate advocate for the Black community and creating equitable access to cycling. As the Founder of the Black Transport Project (BTP), they’ve spearheaded an initiative to fix used bikes and distribute them to Black transgender individuals in the Chicago community, distributing over 60 bikes since 2020! After volunteering at a local community shop as a youth, Maxx has been wrenching for the last 5 years as a professional bike mechanic. Along the way, they picked up a few metal-working skills and create accessories out of found objects in the bike shop. Servicing bikes for countless cyclists across the city, they currently work at a nonprofit bike shop and remain committed to supporting marginalized communities through their expertise. Maxx first got introduced to riding gravel in 2020 after completing a season of cyclocross in the fall of 2017. <image:caption>Merli Estime (she/her) is a first-generation American citizen born in Belgium to Haitian immigrants. As a full-figured woman, she sought to find a way to stay healthy during the pandemic while having fun and meeting people entering cycling. In 2020, she got her first road bike and began to see the world differently on two wheels, 100 miles at a time with the Century Plus Crew as a founding female committee member and Communications Manager. She is also a Bike New York Ambassador and member of KRT/QRT Cycling Team based in Philadelphia. Always being a lover of bicycles but never having access because of her upbringing in the NYC foster care system, her work is twofold. To advocate and create access and education for all skill levels of BIPOC cyclists in underserved communities, and equity around cycling equipment and gear that historically caters to only a certain archetype of people. She seeks to break that mold while putting Black women of full-figured stature to the forefront in the cycling world. Outside of cycling, Merli is a full-time makeup artist and Visual Arts teacher in NYC. A mental health and foster care advocate sharing her personal story to create better resources, and legislation for those who are in those systems. Mike started following his daughter on her bike by jogging behind her and after she quickly developed her skills, jogging was no longer an option, and he was forced to find a bike to ride to keep her company. Mike, who lives in Northern Virginia, began to enjoy cycling for its fitness and therapy benefits and quickly learned how big and diverse the cycling community was in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area. Mike rides with many clubs in the DMV as they all offer a different and unique experience. Mike enjoys his social paced city rides with Streets Calling Bike Club located in Washington DC whose mission is to not only to promote fitness but also give back to the community. When he wants "the smoke", Mike rides with GoodFellas Cycling Club, located in Bowie MD, that is comprised of like-minded men who value their families and fast paced rides. Lastly, Mike rides with Reston Bike Club and participates in the Trek Leesburg Shop rides that provide excellent company and routes that take advantage of Northern Virginia's beautiful scenery and over 300 plus miles of gravel roads. Mike, who is also an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha, is excited to join the RFRJ team because he believes this is another outlet to help spread awareness of Racial Justice which is something he holds dear to his heart.</image:caption>

She fell in love with recreational biking in 2019, when she decided to ride a solo tour up the Big Sur coastline on a whim. Since then, her relationship with bikes has grown to include road, gravel, and mountain biking. Her favorite part about bicycles is their capacity for adventure and exploration. In 2022, Niky started exploring road, cyclocross, and gravel racing and joined Alto Velo, a team based in the Bay Area. She also started the Gay Asian Bike Emporium (GABE for short), a small community organization that aims to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ folx to ride bikes. Her hope is to help center other queer and POC riders and share the joy, freedom, and opportunities biking has brought her. When she’s not biking, Niky works as a Geographer for the United States Geological Survey and studies relationships between water color and water quality in the San Francisco Bay. He started cycling while attending college at Indiana University where riding and racing bikes is serious business. He struggled to find a group where he felt welcomed and comfortable as a BIPOC rider. 20 years later, he still shows up to races, events, and local group rides as one of a few, if not the only, BIPOC rider. As a cyclist, Pratik finds that riding provides him endless joy, increased confidence, and a deep connection with the natural world. He enjoys a wide variety of riding including gravel, road, mountain biking, and bikepacking. Last year, he started racing and completed several gravel and cyclocross events. Most weekends, you can find him riding around town frequenting local coffee and bike shops. As part of the RFRJ program, he hopes to gain the inspiration, knowledge, and skills to build a community of BIPOC riders in Madison. His vision is to create a place for people like him, including his two children, to be free from any barriers to experience the health, happiness, and friendship a bike can provide. The CEO surnamed her a Disruptor and expects her to be a conduit that causes radical change in their industry. She values that her time, talents, and tithes is an expansion of who she is and not only what she does. She uses a positive attitude to create sunshine in encounters and loves to open space in advocacy for women to hone their aspirations. These exchanges afford her an opportunity to empower others in the liberation of life and cycling. Athletic endeavors have varied for her, yet no activity compares to the holistic experience of cycling. She assisted in hosting clinics for children in marginalized areas to introduce more girls to cycling. She constructed a route of Black Historic Sites in St. Louis and plans to host those cycling segments this year. Robin is dedicated to every endeavor she starts using the mantra, “I don’t compete, I complete!” Robin’s personal cycling endeavors have motivated more women of color to cycle through representation. Her inspiration to be present was awakened when she saw a portrait of a little girl modeling herself after Michelle Obama. This visual stirred her grandparent’s instructions to practice the Ministry of Presence. “…represent yourself, your people, and your God, wherever you are. Wilson recognized her authenticity and ability to create and organize an inclusive sand volleyball community in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex that not only has a great time but learns and excels together. Volleyball isn't the only arena in which she created this type of space - the same can be said for her local cycling society as she has recently become an avid cyclist. She is a dedicated Black Lives Matter activist with a clear vision for racial justice, and the endurance to push through the challenges; community is always at the top of her priorities. H er friendships are bonded by love, support, accountability, fun and fitness! Mix in travel and outdoor adventures and you've got her heart. Walking in an array of shoes, from LGBTQ to BIPOC to cycling shoes locked into her pedals, Terrelia is committed to spreading love, awareness, and positive change. From her perspective, "being active is more than a stress reliever for me. Being active empowers me to work harder towards my goals, connect with people and show up as my authentic self".</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program - Alejandra Sullivan</image:title>
<image:caption>Alejandra Sullivan (she/her) was born and raised in the beautiful and colorful state of Colorado, where she currently works as a higher ed professional in the cute little town of Fort Collins. In Alejandra’s 8 years of experience, she works to address inequities within education by centering the holistic growth of all students she works with. She started riding her bike more during the pandemic just to explore the trails of Fort Collins. This exploration led to Alejandra completing her first gravel ride at the FocoFondo on her strong and mighty commuter bike. Since then, she has completed 4 different gravel rides where she has literally gone the distance to increase her strength and confidence. She is a part of Queer Plus Bikes in Fort Collins and enjoys the community, laughs, and rides. When she isn't riding, she loves spending time with her partner, 2 orange tabbys and a miniature dachshund.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Allison Pao (she/her) is a 25-year-old Chinese-American who grew up in New York City, Nashville, and Switzerland. She lived in Boston for seven years, where she completed her undergraduate degree and Master’s of Education degrees at Harvard, worked as a high school social studies teacher, and documented patient visits as a scribe in an emergency room. She currently lives in Philadelphia, where she is finishing pre-medical course requirements with plans of applying to medical school. Although biking has been her main mode of transportation for many years, she began road and gravel cycling in 2022 as a way to get outside and explore. She quickly fell in love with the feelings of freedom, joy, and peace that come with riding her bike. As a bike commuter, road and gravel cyclist, and adventure enthusiast, she truly believes that biking can be a transformative tool for positive change in our communities. She has witnessed firsthand how biking can bring people together, spark joy, and push riders to be better versions of themselves. She is honored and excited to join this year’s Ride for Racial Justice team!</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program - Betty Cruz</image:title>
<image:caption>Originally from Miami, Florida, Betty Cruz (she/her) is the daughter of Cuban immigrants and a first-generation college graduate. Betty has called Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home for more than a decade and, in January 2020, she assumed the role of President and CEO of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, a local nonprofit that envisions a more globally minded and globally connected world that is equitable and just for all. One of the ways the Council brings Pittsburghers together is through free bike rides that include global stop-talks. This approach has twice led to their selection as a Bike Share Pittsburgh Community Ambassador. While community rides are a signature program that the Council began hosting in 2021, it was only in 2018 that Betty dusted off her mountain bike and began putting some miles on it – she hasn’t looked back since. Outside of the work she leads today, Betty has experience in community outreach, communications, partnership-building, and program management – spanning over 20 years. She started her own social enterprise, developed citywide initiatives for Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto, managed major accounts for a national nonprofit dedicated to building playgrounds, and supported public relations for global brands. Betty now lives in a rural town in the Laurel Highlands, southeast of Pittsburgh, a move she made to be closer to some of her favorite nature spots like Ohiopyle State Park and the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). Betty’s toughest and most beautiful cycling memories include riding the GAP trail from Pittsburgh to DC in October 2020 and participating in her first gravel race in 2023 at Grounded Nebraska. When she’s not spending time with beloved humans or hiking with her sweet rescue dogs, Celia and Benny Moré, Betty finds joy and liberation in riding her bike and deepening her mindfulness meditation practice on and off the cushion.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Bongani Mbigi(he/him), originally from South Africa with Zimbabwean heritage, has spent the majority of his life in the Texas suburbs of Fort Worth. Graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Mathematics, he's always had a passion for cycling throughout his youth, cycling to and from school, and through college, where you would often find Bongani cruising through downtown on his trusty single speed. However, it wasn't until 2020 that he took his passion for cycling to the next level, purchasing a road bike and truly ventured into the exhilarating world of cycling. Aiming to improve his distance and speed, his true passion lies in conquering the rugged gravel roads that wind through the outskirts of Austin's Hill Country. He's an active member of BBBATX, a BIPOC cycling group in Austin, relishing the camaraderie and shared experiences of the road. Off the saddle, Bongani channels his energy into promoting diversity and equality as the co-chair of the black ERG at his workplace. He's deeply committed to creating inclusive spaces for people of color, a cause that's as close to his heart as cycling itself.</image:caption>

For 10+ years, she was in the sport-based youth development part of the rowing world, working mostly with middle schoolers and youth with disabilities. Similar to RFRJ, she and her podcast partner organize all-BIPOC boat lineups for the world’s largest rowing regatta. All of her work is grounded in socio-economic accessibility and racial equity, eliminating financial barriers to the transformative power of sport. New to cycling, she heard “she doesn’t look like a cyclist.” As a rationale response, she’s taking up more space, entering more races, and is honored to represent RFRJ as an Ambassador in 2024 SBT GRVL. <image:caption>Derick Gaspard (he/him) is a father first but dons many hats. He was born and raised in the Deep South of New Orleans, Louisiana and now calls Lincoln, Nebraska home. Derick’s previous lifestyle led to incarceration on multiple occasions, most recently in 2014 when he was convicted and sentenced to 6 to 10 years in prison for marijuana and weapons violations. It was during this time that he found the freedom of 2 wheels. Upon release and since 2021, Derrick has competed in events such as SBT GRVL (144 mile Black Course), Gravel Worlds (151 miles), FoCo Fondo (107 miles), Grounded Nebraska (60 miles), MidSouth (50 miles) and the Rule of Three (50 miles). He placed 3rd overall this year at the inaugural Winter Endurance event in the Men’s category. Outside of competing, Derick’s primary focus has been advocating for more diversity and inclusion in the sport, as well as promoting cycling infrastructure locally. Currently, he serves on the board for “ROAM Nebraska” and serves as an Advisory Board Member for Grounded Nebraska. He has worked closely with the Lancaster Composite Mountain Bike team to get 8 BIPOC kids on FREE mountain bikes, courtesy of the TREK Pathfinder scholarship which also covered their team fees for the year. He has launched 2 different cycling kit campaigns in conjunction with my vegan restaurant, where proceeds from the sales directly benefit local nonprofits: Black Leaders Movement and The Malone Center. One of his biggest achievements was being selected as part of the inaugural group of 25 riders from around the world for the 2021 Ride for Racial Justice Team. As an alumnus, Derick reaches out to new members and tries to break the ice for those who may be new to the sport.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Harry Chung (he/him) is a first-generation Korean American, born in Korea, and raised in Chicago, with stints living in Maine and Arizona, before settling in Seattle. His journey into cycling began as a tribute to his father's encouragement, yet he faced challenges in finding a supportive community where he felt comfortable being different racially and culturally. However, everything changed when Harry discovered the Asian Bike Club, now called Ampersand Bike Club (&BC). Within the &BC community, Harry found solace, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging, proudly wearing his Korean flag jersey during rides and events. Currently residing in Seattle with his two dogs, two cats, and a supportive wife, Harry finds joy, confidence, and a profound connection with the natural world through riding. He embraces a diverse range of cycling disciplines, from gravel to road biking, and delights in exploring the scenic routes of Seattle and beyond. Inspired by his experiences, Harry is committed to fostering inclusivity and representation within the cycling community. With a daughter on the way, Harry looks forward to sharing his rich cultural heritage and passion for cycling, instilling in her a love for both as she grows. As a member of the Ride for Racial Justice (RFRJ) team at the 2024 SBT GRVL event, Harry hopes to amplify BIPOC voices, promote diversity, and inspire others to embrace their cultural identities through cycling. Harry's goal for the year is to complete the 103-mile Blue Course at SBT GRVL, representing not just himself, but the resilience and diversity of BIPOC cyclists everywhere.</image:caption>

The aim of cycling was at first to just get from A to B. Commuting, helping people, and enjoying was and continues to be the intention of getting outside and opening up avenues to new opportunities. As a transit infrastructure designer and policy coordinator, reaching out to communities and networking is her priority to see the enjoyment and progress of potential in life in various ways and genuine purpose. After a brief stint as an educator, Joel now works as a sales leader for Salesforce, where he also promotes DEI initiatives, mentorship, and philanthropy. Raised in a family that prioritized spending time in nature, Joel quickly developed a love for cycling. Over the years, it has become a means of expression, community, adventure, health, and self-exploration. Since moving to Denver in 2019, Joel has completed the Triple Bypass, two Half Ironmans, and an Olympic Triathlon. When he’s not out riding, you can find Joel on the soccer pitch, hiking trails with his dog Leeroy, traveling, or sharing a great meal with friends. He is honored and excited to join the RFRJ team at Steamboat GRVL this year and hopes you will join him in continuing to foster an inclusive and diverse world.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Justine Kavle (she/her) is a Chinese Indian first-generation American living in Washington D.C. As a public health nutritionist, Justine works to combat hunger and food security globally, especially in underserved communities across sub-Saharan Africa. Her life’s journey has centered on justice and equity, as she is dedicated to mentoring and cultivating the next generation of BIPOC public health nutritionists. Justine is also the founder of a grassroots bicycle education project, Pioneer Pedalers, that aims to equip BIPOC D.C. youth with practical skills and tools for biking, with linkages to cycling’s impact on health and the environment. In 2018, Justine started cycling longer distances, as a long-time bike commuter. Through cycling, Justine has met like-minded folks and friends which has helped her grow as a cyclist - which has allowed greater freedom and joy on the bike. She was also a scholarship recipient through Melanin Base Miles, which provided greater exposure to gravel cycling in a community with BIPOC cyclists. While training with the Ride for Racial Justice team, she's excited to bring greater representation to the sport of cycling and gain new skills and experiences to bring back to the D.C. community.</image:caption>

They got involved in the local biking community through New Haven Bike Party and volunteering at their local bike co-op. Since then, they’ve grown into an avid ride coordinator, bike mechanic-teacher, route planner, and cheerleader for any and all types of biking in New Haven and beyond. They are the founder of the RAR New Haven Chapter, a Chapter Manager for the RAR Chapter Program, and were previously a member of the Wild Composite gender-expansive racing team. Kai loves riding, learning and teaching, and hopes to motivate others like them to explore and get in touch with their bodies and nature via the magic of riding and fixing bikes with friends.</image:caption>

      <image:title>BIPOC Ambassador Program - Karen Armour</image:title>
<image:caption>Karen Armour (she/her) is a Midwest native who currently resides in the Garden State. Her cycling journey began when she purchased her first MTB in 2004. Getting out for a ride on dirt roads and trails was a great way to destress and explore nature. Continuing to ride, Karen later transitioned into road cycling in order to complete triathlons. During this time, she began riding with cycling groups and joined a local chapter of Black Girls Do Bike (Denver). It was there she learned about proper group riding and basic bicycle maintenance. Both skills have been helpful as she serves as the current Shero for the Black Girls Do Bike Southern NJ chapter. In this role, Karen has worked to create a welcoming environment for riders, led group rides, and tapped into local cycling advocacy efforts. Encouraging and educating new riders is an exciting way for her to give back to the cycling community. As an East Coast transplant, riding in new areas has taught Karen more about the mid-Atlantic region. She never knew New Jersey had the most diners in the world, lol! Since living here, she has become even more smitten with gravel riding. These rides have challenged her, and brought her joy, peace, and mental clarity. Karen’s most recent rides were the Spellbound Century and her first gravel grinder, the NJ Gravel Grinder Part Deux. This year, she looks forward to completing SBT GRVL with my RFRJ teammates, and working toward a new personal best (PB) at the Philadelphia Women’s Triathlon. In my non-cycling life, she is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who works with child and adult food and nutrition programs. When Karen is not at work, she loves to travel (domestically and internationally), build LEGO sets, run/swim/cycle, and read all types of books.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kimerie Swift (she/her) is excited for the opportunity to attend SBT GRVL as a part of the 2024 RFRJ Ambassador Team. Based out of Atlanta, GA and already loving to ride, her true passion for bike life began in the Spring of 2021. Kimerie’s intro into the community started with frequent commuter rides and over time, created a sense of belonging. She has enjoyed rolling at community and social rides, pelotons, tours, an occasional alley cat, and in the velodrome. In preparation for SBT GRVL, she is excited to further dedicate time off-road, acclimating to maneuvering through gravel, single track, and obstacles at long distances. In Atlanta, they have a thriving Black led cycling community in the streets. Kimerie has anticipated that over time we can see the same level of diverse representation come to parity off-road, and for all segments of cycling to continue to grow in this way. Aside from her own enjoyment, she’s showing up with hopes to inspire and help to grow more Black, female representation and participation for off-roading adventures such as this. Kimerie appreciates those who selected her for this opportunity and her community that continues to lift her up and support her journey as an ever evolving human and cyclist. <image:caption>Pratik Prajapati (he/him) is a first-generation Indian American raised in rural KY and is currently located in Madison, WI. His vision is to create a place for people like him, including his two children, to be free from any barriers to experience the health, happiness, and friendship a bike can provide. Pratik is the founder of the BIPOC Cycling Club Madison where he leads weekly community rides for fellow BIPOC Cyclists in his community. Pratik was a member of 2023 RFRJ BIPOC Ambassador Program and completed the Blue Course at SBT GRVL. For 2024, he is proud to be serving as a mentor for the 2024 RFRJ Ambassadors and will be helping the athletes prepare for the event.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Tavaghn Monts (he/him) was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised on a farm in Fort White, Florida. He spent his childhood years riding his beloved green spray-painted bike down those dusty dirt roads. That moment of freedom on two wheels is a feeling he thrives on making accessible for all, especially the underserved youth. He genuinely believes many of our youth don’t lack talents or gifts but access and resources. He loves serving the youth because they empower him daily to be his best version. Tavaghn is a proud husband and father who serves as a Clemson University Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management Department staff member and is the Executive Director of Momentum Bike Clubs (MBC). MBC is a group mentoring initiative for middle school and high school students in Greenville, South Carolina, with a mission to transform the lives of young people through a comprehensive youth development program using the cycling platform to foster and sustain positive mentoring and peer relationships. Tavaghn is also the Assistant Director of Community Collaboration for the REYSE Collaboratory. The Race, Ethnicity, Youth and Social Equity (REYSE) Collaboratory at Clemson University is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and community scholars conducting research and providing programming to improve the lives of racial and ethnic youth living in diverse communities. His passion and tenacious drive to remind everyone that you don’t need permission to be great, coupled with his profession, brought him right back to those two wheels of freedom and tranquility while pushing physical and mental boundaries for self-improvement in spaces where equity for all is the minority.
